Radon Testing

Radon Testing in Gainesville VA

JK Radon no longer tests for real estate transactions but we CAN test for most other situations.

JK Radon does use a CRM (Continuous Radon Monitor) for all ym testing. it gives you a digital print out so you can understand the results. JK Radon was certified from 2008 2019 in testing but I am no longer certified for testing.

❓ What Is Radon Testing and Why Does It Matter?

Radon testing determines how much radon gas is in your home — the only way to know if levels are elevated. Since radon is odorless, colorless, and naturally occurring, testing is the only reliable method to check indoor air safety and protect your family’s health.

🧪 What Types of Radon Tests Are There?

There are short-term tests (typically 2–7 days) for quick screening and long-term tests (90+ days) that provide the best picture of your year-round radon average. Professionals often use continuous radon monitors (CRMs) for precise short-term measurement, especially in real estate transactions.

🏡 How Is a Professional Radon Test Done?

A certified tester places measurement devices in the lowest lived-in area of the home (basement or lowest floor) and follows EPA testing protocols, including maintaining “closed-house” conditions (windows and doors closed) before and during the test for accuracy.

📍 Do I Need to Be Home for the Test?

You don’t always need to be present — inspectors often just need access to the lowest level of your home to place and later retrieve the test device. This makes professional radon testing convenient even if you’re busy.

📊 How Often Should a Home Be Tested?

Radon levels can change over time due to seasonal shifts or renovations, so experts recommend testing at least every 2 years and any time you update your home’s structure or ventilation.

📈 What Happens After I Get My Radon Test Results?

Radon is measured in picocuries per liter (pCi/L). If your results are 4.0 pCi/L or higher, mitigation is recommended to reduce levels and improve indoor air quality. Lower levels still warrant awareness and periodic retesting.
